Vision
The Australian Youth Against Landmines Association is a voluntary organisation designed to
• Assist as many landmine victims across the world as possible
• Spread awareness of landmines amongst young Australians
Methods: Proactive Teaching
1. Educational Institutions
Driving Ideas: Approaching educational centres containing young Australian students
• Spreading awareness: informing the students of the magnitude of landmines across the world.
• Encouraging greater donations: proposing that the student body give generously to The Australian Youth Against Landmines Association through a fundraising event, often plain clothes days
• Proposing that the educational institution set up a yearly donation to a landmine aid centre
• Encouraging the educational institution to send yearly volunteers to a landmine aid centre
Process
a. The Association delegate contacts an educational institution
b. Upon contact, the delegate proposes that the institution give the funds generated by its next plain clothes day to the Association
c. In return, the delegate speaks at school assembly, informing students of the problem of landmines in the world
d. If a delegate is unable to attend because of the location of the school, he or she encourages the student body to take on the project for themselves, and provides the information for a student to speak at school assembly
2. Involvement in the Australian Network of the International Campaign to ban Landmines
Driving Ideas: work with the NSW Committee of the International Campaign to ban Landmines as the leading youth body in this area
• Involvement in the allocation of funding for Landmines Awareness Week, May 2004
• Involvement in the planning of events during this week
3. Co operation with other major NGO's in landmine assistance and advocacy
• AUSTCARE
• Edmund Rice Centre
