Current Projects

The Australian Youth Against Landmines Association is involved in a variety of projects related to landmine victim assistance and education. We are working with a variety of bodies globally, nationally and across Sydney.

1. International Network of Youth Against Landmines (INYAL)
The committee of TAYALA believes that because landmines is a global issue, youth of the world must work cooperatively to defeat it.

To achieve this, TAYALA is helping design The International Network of Youth Against Landmines (INYAL). This represents a coalition of youth organizations and individuals who aim to work together to solve the world’s problems of landmines. It also allows the youth of the world to freely share ideas and experiences relating to landmines in a supportive environment and in doing so, learn from each other.

At the International Youth Symposium on Landmines (IYS), held concurrently with the Nairobi Summit for a Mine Free World in Kenya in November 2004, TAYALA took a leading role in promoting INYAL to the IYS delegates and in expanding its membership.

Currently, there are members from 20 different countries, living in Asia, Africa, Europe North America.

2. Education: Student’s Symposium on Landmines, Sydney

On May 26th, 2005 TAYALA, in partnership with AUSTCARE, will be holding a High School Student’s Symposium on landmines at St. Joseph’s College in Sydney. There will be between 30 and 40 schools represented at the conference from both public and independent schools from across Sydney.
The conference aims to educate these leaders about landmines through a series of presentations and workshops, with the idea that they then return to their schools to make presentations about landmines and to raise money for a specific landmines related cause. The conference also aims to educate students on landmine related issues such as poverty and development.

3. Political Advocacy

In 2005, TAYALA will continue its working relationship with the ICBL – Australia Network and other committed individuals in an effort to lobby the government on anti – landmine related activities.

4. Donations

Over the course of the year, TAYALA will seek more donations for landmine victim assistance.

We would also like to thank Navin Asset Management Pty Ltd for financially assisting a TAYALA committee member attend the Nairobi Youth Summit.
